Cycle 1 Morning Basket Plans
This six week Morning Basket Plan is designed to accompany your community’s 5th edition memory work for weeks 1-6. Written with a loop format in mind, there is no daily schedule, but instead a list of topics that can be revisited multiple times in a single week, or once per week as you are led. The areas covered are Bible reading, Poetry, Hymns, Art Study and Music Appreciation. Classical poems, works of art, hymns, and music are tied to each week’s memory work, bringing a beautiful depth to New Grammar in an open-and-go format that makes it easy for mom with little to no prep. Also included is a 6 week read-aloud plan leveled for families with children in from Abecedarians to Masters.
All works are hyperlinked in the text; the only outside resources required for purchase or borrowing are read-alouds.

Cycle 1 History Lesson Plans
This curriculum guide was created to help families get the most out of their history resources. We’ve found the best and most popular history resources and put them together in one organize plan for you to follow. Each week you’ll dive into the Kingfisher Encyclopedia, read great stories from Story of the World, complete mapping activities, crafts, and projects….and most weeks also include an interactive History Pocket to assemble! If you love notebooking, then you’ll also be able to use the reproducible notebooking pages included to give your child a chance to write down and/or draw what they have learned each week. These pages are great for an end of the year portfolio!
If you want a history lesson plan that aligns with the CC weeks, you’ll want to check out Jaime’s work! She has made it easy to grab your books and supplies and follow along each day.

Cycle 1 Ancient HISTORY Crafts and Activities
Make Classical Conversations Cycle 1 Ancient History Sentences come alive! There is a craft or hands-on activity for each week. I’ve geared these crafts for preK-3rd grade using supplies that most people have around the house. These crafts follow Classical Conversations Cycle 1 History Sentences 5th Edition, but are not endorsed or affiliated by them. The guide is very open-and-go. There are explanations about how the crafts tie in, supply lists, easy to follow instructions, pictures of completed items, and a printables section (so you don’t need to hunt for anything). NEW this cycle: A Fast Facts section in each week’s activity. It has facts about the history topic. These can be a resource for you as a parent or you can share with your curious child.

Do you have a hands-on learner? You will want this craft guide! These are not your typical (boring) crafts. They are creative and will add a little variety to your learning from week to week.

Drawing and labeling their memory work not only doubles up CC review with drawing lessons, but also dramatically helps with knowledge retention! Studies show that drawing information can improve recall by more than double compared to just writing the information down!

Animals in Time, Volume 1: Historical Empires and Civilizations
These twenty-six A-Z animal adventure stories will whisk kids across the globe as they paddle the Nile River, lumber through the Amazon rain forest, and march across the Mesoamerican terrain. There is one item that makes traveling through time and space possible for the animals—the Commandment Stone! From dodging arrows of the Visogoths, to escaping the clutches of the Samurai, or simply sipping frothy xocolatl (or hot chocolate) with the Aztecs, kids are sure to remember the people and places from long ago, inspiring them to consider the contribution they will, in turn, make to this world. An accompanying activity book is also available. These items align with Classical Conversations (5th Edition) history and geography topics for Cycle 1.

We used Animals in Time last year and throughly enjoyed the adventure along with the animals and made some history and geography connections along the way. We are looking forward to the adventures cycle 1 has in store!

Geography Around the World
Geography Around the World introduces students to continents, capitals, landforms and biomes, major lakes and rivers, mountain ranges, political boundaries, and more. Students can have fun completing a range of activities including matching, decoding puzzles, multiple choice, map work, and even an international traders’ challenge. 279 pages total. Answer keys are included. This geography curriculum is comprised of eight units, with each unit increasing in difficulty and grade level. Unit 1 is appropriate for 1st grade, Unit 2 is appropriate for 2nd grade, etc., through Unit 8 for 8th grade. However, these units can be begun at any point. For example, if you have a 4th grader who has not had much background in geography, you may choose to do Units 1, 2, 3, and 4 at the pace that fits your schedule. Or, if you review the content in those units and find your student already has an understanding of those concepts, you can simply start with the unit matching your student’s grade level. Ages 5-13.
You can find dozens of history, geography, art, music, and science resources broken into topics that align with Classical Conversations Cycle 1 here at WriteBonnieRose.com. It takes the work out of finding related resources and makes rounding out the year’s curriculum a snap!

Scripture Link, Cycle 1
As you memorize facts about the ancient world and world empires, would you like a nugget of Biblical truth to hang onto for the week? A little seed to plant in the hearts of your kids about the goodness and mercy of God in a world full of idols and false gods? This family guide will help you connect simple, yet profound truths in Scripture with historical world events.
Each of the 24 history topics for cycle 1 has a short Scripture passage with one verse highlighted to memorize. It is followed by the main idea and then some thoughts on the connection. For those with older kids, there are discussion questions based on the Five Common Topics. If you have Challenge kids, this is a great way to include them in family Bible time. You’ll discuss things like why cultures set up idols and men long for a hero – why nations seek to rule and men long to be liberated. Every age group can participate in the culmination of praise to our great God. Ideas for prayer, praise, and thanksgiving are included with a suggested psalm, hymn, or spiritual song. Scripture Link provides a way to set our minds on Christ alongside our history studies.
